Event Description: Leading expert about the Business of Art, Alan Bamberger, will talk about what you need to know as artist to navigate the business of making, promoting, and selling art. Moderated by artist Lordy Rodriguez the format for this talk will be Q&A style interview so you, the audience have a chance to ask the questions you most want answers to and dialogue directly with Mr. Bamberger.
ABOUT THE EVENT SPEAKERS
Alan Bamberger, is an art consultant, advisor, author, and independent appraiser specializing in research, appraisal, and all business and market aspects of original works of art, artist manuscript materials, art-related documents, and art reference books. He has been selling art since 1979 and rare and scholarly art reference books since 1982, and has been consulting, advising and appraising for artists, galleries, businesses, organizations and collectors since 1985. Bamberger has written about the art business since 1983. His syndicated column, “Art Talk” debuted in 1985 and appeared in antique and collectibles newspapers and magazines nationwide. He has also written three books, Buy Art Smart and Art For All, published by Wallace-Homestead in 1990 and 1994 respectively, and The Art of Buying Art, published by Gordon’s Art Reference in 2002, revised and enlarged and republished in 2007. Most recently, it was revised, enlarged, expanded, and republished by Robinson, an imprint of Little, Brown Book Group, London, UK, 2018.
Lordy Rodriguez is a contemporary artist who uses cartography and maps to reconfigure factual locations and create fictional assemblage pieces. Inspired by family road trips across the country, Rodriguez was influenced by the maps his family used to navigate the country. Rodriguez has had solo exhibitions at the Austin Museum of Art (Austin, TX), the Hosfelt Gallery (San Francisco, CA), and Clementine Gallery (New York). Rodriguez whose home and studio are in Benicia also serves on the Board of Directors of Arts Benicia.
