Class description: Chase away the winter doldrums by turning the darkness to color. First, we will take a brief look at how artists have used this technique through the years to provide a graphic and emphatic mood to their paintings. From early Kandinsky to more modern works, artists have used black as an important contrast to the colorful or pale palettes.
We will begin with a black canvas and explore the impact that black has on color and composition in painting. Working with grays, whites and/or vibrant color we will produce energetic, exciting and colorful works of art.
About the instructor: Louise Victor has maintained a vibrant art practice while also lecturing and teaching drawing, painting, and the aesthetics of art. She a received a BFA from Northern Illinois University.
