Class Description: In this Portrait Painting series, students will learn how to note the proportions of the head, use techniques to locate and define the features, and work out all the challenges during the process of underpainting. The planes of the head will be noted using color as it relates to “value” to create the form. A limited palette will be used to keep our color-mixing simple yet defined. Students will learn how to “turn the form” without flattening it or creating “mud.” This method is used in all the Ateliers and can provide the artist with an excellent foundation and a toolbox of skills. This series can benefit both beginner and advanced artists. The first class starts without a model so students can focus on the drawing techniques and methods of color mixing. This will allow the beginners to note important techniques for measuring proportions, and locating the features while supporting the more advanced participants with defining techniques to ensure more clarity in their painting process.
Note: The three sessions will include a live model
