Introduction to Encaustic Painting

Class description: This full day workshop is a great introduction to the art of encaustics and the magic of wax. We will address heating, fusing and manipulating wax, as well as discuss colors, brushes, hot plates and where to find supplies. We will be using collage materials and other objects that can be used embedded in the wax. Participants will be supplied with two 5 x 7 wooden panels and each person will take home at least 2 complete works of art.
SPECIAL NOTES: Students are encouraged to bring along their own collage materials, although everything required will be provided. We will be working with paint and glue so please dress accordingly. Also bring along something to eat as lunch will not be provided.
AGE MINIMUM: Minimum 18 years of age, we are working with temperatures above 200 degrees.
Margot Hartford: Although she is a commercial photographer Margot has been working with encaustics, painting and collage for the past 12 years. Margot taught photography at the Academy of Art for over 10 years, and is currently teaching encaustics at The Image Flow in Mill Valley.
