Exploring Botanical Monotypes

Class description: Join Kelly in this popular, one-day experimental monotype printmaking workshop where you will learn to make stunning, one-of-a-kind botanical nature prints inspired by the natural world. Kelly will show you some of her favorite techniques on the printing press to achieve beautiful compositions using real flora as stencils through simple layering and masking. Guests will be have the opportunity to work with a variety of colorful inks, quality paper and an abundance of seasonal and preserved foliage.

Kelly will discuss and demonstrate how to add dimension to prints by applying a variety of mixed media such as pastel, pen and ink, watercolor, graphite, and even collage. It is sure to be a fun and inspiring class for beginners or even experienced printmakers interested in learning a new technique. If you love plants, and you’ve always wanted to try monotype, this class is sure to motivate and inspire you!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Kelly Autumn is an Asian American visual artist and multidisciplinary printmaker based in Sonoma County. Raised in Santa Rosa and deeply rooted in the Bay Area, Kelly is a passionate arts educator with a natural curiosity for combining traditional print methods with an experimental mixed-media approach. Kelly received her BA degree from San Francisco State University and an AA degree in Studio Arts with emphasis in Printmaking from Diablo Valley College. She currently leads the Printmaking Department as a studio instructor and Program Coordinator at the Sonoma Community Center where she enjoys sharing her love of printmaking with folks of all ages. Kelly currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California Society of Printmaker and her work has been featured in various public exhibitions throughout the Bay Area.
