ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Fumiyo Yoshikawa was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, Fumiyo Yoshikawa studied Japanese art and history
and specializes in Sumi-e and Japanese painting. She has also embraced American art since moving to San Francisco in 2004. She has exhibited extensively in Japan since 1984 and in the U.S. since 2006. Yoshikawa is interested in various cultures, their uniqueness, and differences, and travels frequently to learn about local cultures and art styles. She was particularly fascinated by the similarities between the ancient civilizations of Central America and Japan and spent a year in Guatemala before moving to the U.S., where she studied Mayan culture, created artwork, and held a solo exhibition. Currently, she is creating and exhibiting her contemporary art in various locations, which is a development of her own interpretation of calligraphy and Sumi-e (ink painting), which are deeply related to Zen.
