Class Description: Join Colleen Gianatiempo for Mixed Media Mono Printmaking. In this mono-printing art class, you will use a Gelli plate, a flexible printing plate made of silicone, which is a fun and creative way to explore mixed-media art.  To begin, students will prepare their Gelli plate by spreading a thin layer of printing ink or paint over its surface. They will then use a variety of tools, such as brayers, rollers, and stamps, to apply pressure to the plate and transfer the ink onto a piece of paper. As students experiment with different tools and techniques, they will discover how to create a wide range of textures, patterns, and effects on their prints. They may also choose to incorporate additional mixed media elements, such as collage materials or drawings, into their prints to further enhance their compositions. Throughout the class, Colleen will provide guidance and demonstrations to help students develop their skills and techniques. Students will have the opportunity to create multiple prints, allowing them to experiment and explore different approaches. Overall, a mono-printing art class using a Gelli plate is a great way for students to discover the endless possibilities of mixed media art and unleash their creativity.

Materials: Students will need to bring a Gelli Arts Gel Printing plate, a rubber brayer, a ream of copy paper, an apron, and any other art-making tools you desire! All other materials will be supplied.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Colleen Gianatiempo is a mixed media artist, educator, and designer living and working in her new location in St. George, Utah. Colleen’s journey as an artist began when she was 3 years old. She remembers cutting up family photos and drawing on walls with lipstick. She learned early on that it’s possible to express the world around her in different ways and this is where Colleen’s passion began.
Colleen approaches life the same way she paints, by embracing the mystery, staying open to change, finding courage, honoring her intuition, and trusting the journey. This mindset has enabled her colorful, layered, contemporary, and distinctive style to emerge. Nature is her main influence as she always marvels at the design and beauty it beholds. She works in many mediums and thrives most when she can experiment and discover new techniques. Colleen has been told that she is the Mary Poppins of art supplies! In 2017, Colleen earned an MFA in Non-Figurative abstract painting from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. As her formal art career developed, she has been privileged to be selected for several heart-themed public art projects including Hearts of San Francis-co, The Heart of Sonoma, The American Backyard (city of Dublin, CA), Sea Lions of San Francisco, and Small Town with A Big Heart Mural in Martinez. This has given her the reputation as “the Artist with a Heart”.
