Stencils and Masks in Mono Printing

Stencils and Masks in Mono Printing

Colleen Gianatiempo

Sunday, October 23, 11 am – 2 pm

$115 non-member/ $100 member
$10 material fee paid directly to instructor

Location: Arts Benicia Annex, 991 Tyler Street, #116
Level: All levels
Age minimum: 18

Minimum 5 | Maximum 16

Class description: Learning to create and use stencils and masks will allow you to produce abstract compositions, more complex details, and traced contour images. Create unique, free-form printed images every time. Making your own stencils allows very personal and meaningful imagery. And you can just take a few moments to create the prefect image that you would like to incorporate into your work.

You will learn how to make a few types of stencils:
Traditional “hole” stencil – that ink is gently pushed through and the print is made
Masking Stencil – is used to block the transfer of ink to the surface

Stencils can last for years and be used to make hundreds of prints. This workshop will cover all the materials and techniques!

Note: Bring a bag lunch. There will be a brief lunch break.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Colleen Gianatiempo is a mixed media artist, educator, and designer living and working in her new location in St. George, Utah. Colleen approaches life the same way she paints, by embracing the mystery, staying open to change, finding courage, honoring her intuition and trusting the journey resulting in a colorful, layered, contemporary, and distinctive style to emerge. Nature is her main influence as she always marvels about the design and beauty it beholds. She works in many mediums and thrives most when she can experiment and discover new techniques.

Colleen earned an MFA in Non-Figurative abstract painting from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. She has been selected for several heart-themed public art projects including Hearts of San Francisco, The Heart of Sonoma, The American Backyard (city of Dublin, CA), Sea Lions of San Francisco, and Small Town with A Big Heart Mural in Martinez. This has given her the reputation as “the Artist with a Heart”.
