Class description: This class puts the “fun” in fundamentals! Students will learn the important basics of painting in transparent watercolor, working with the unique nature of the watercolor medium. You’ll learn how to make colorful washes, smooth and seamless gradations, how to make vivid and clean color mixtures and avoid “muddy” colors, and create unique and fascinating special effects using unconventional materials. In addition, you’ll learn how to choose the best materials for the watercolor medium. You will be guided in real-time, hands-on and individual attention paid to every student to ensure success and confidence with this exciting medium.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
California artist Dina Farris Appel has over three decades of professional experience as an artist, illustrator, muralist, art therapist, and art teacher. She holds a BFA in Fine Art in Drawing and Painting from California State University, Long Beach, and a Master’s of Art in Art Therapy from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Dina’s colorful and expressive paintings in acrylic, watercolor, and collage currently focus on wildlife conservation and animal rights issues. Her award winning original art has been exhibited at galleries, museums, and festivals throughout California, Arizona, Texas, and Hawaii, and onboard Carnival and Norwegian cruise lines.Dina has taught art to both children and adults, publicly and privately and at all levels, for 20 years. She loves sharing her knowledge of art and helping students find joy in learning and creating.
