Art of a Community 2024
January 20 - February 25, 2024

Annual Arts Benicia Members’ Exhibition,

Artwork by Robert Anke

Explorations in Monochromatic Art
March 16 – April 28

Leah Rosenberg, Juror

Just as the common phrase “shades of grey” refers to a state of uncertainty or ambiguity, the use of a single color or hue in painting leads to the suggestion of ideas and questions rather than a definition of reality. By reducing a painting or artwork to a single essential hue or color, the viewer is invited to focus on issues such as shape, space, design, composition, tonality, and form. This exhibition will showcase exceptional monochromatic artwork in a wide range of genres and mediums.

I. We. They. Celebrations of Gender
June 1 – July 21

Thea Quiray Tagle, Juror

Expressions of gender diversity and identity through art and storytelling create an environment where gender diversity becomes relatable, natural, and beautiful. Arts Benicia, a non-profit art center in Benicia, CA, invites artists to submit works for I. We. They. Celebrations of Gender is a juried exhibition of artworks expressing and celebrating ideas of gender as a central theme. Themes to consider include personal journeys.

Era (She/Her), artwork by Nina Katz

A Stitch in Time: Contemporary Textile & Fiber Art
August 17 – October 6

Aimee Le Duc, Juror
From their origins as practical crafts of protection and warmth to impractical expressions of our creative imaginations and stories, the evolution of fiber arts parallels and tells our own histories. This is a juried exhibition that seeks to showcase a wide range of outstanding works related to the fiber medium.

Identity, artwork by Akiko Suzuki

Animalia
October 26 - December 15

Isabella Kirkland, Juror

There are over 1.5 million known species of animals, including humans. New species continue to be discovered, while present species evolve and sometimes disappear. This juried exhibition seeks to showcase artists’ representations of the animal world, including the place of the human species and human activity within the larger animal universe.

Bird with Words, artwork by Marsha Balian
