Artist Statement

Art, especially painting, has been my main occupation since 1999. In that time, I have learned, in my bones, that art is not something I do as much as it is something that does things to me. Essentially it is a process of becoming something that I have not been before, continuously transforming, continuously learning and acting on what I learn, and there is no end goal in sight, just another landmark and another after that. And each landmark is a surprise.

Biography

David Fitzgerald was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Denver, Colorado. He has also lived in Montana, Florida and the Bay Area. Early in his life he worked as a carpenter and later became a computer programmer and system analyst. He was always a creative type and practiced art making throughout his life but in 1999 he was able to retire and took the opportunity to study art seriously. He is currently shown at Transmission Gallery on West Grand Avenue in Oakland.
