Class Description: This workshop will be an opportunity to make collages in collaboration and in community. Erin will give demonstrations on composition, gluing, ways to select and combine papers, and ideas for further work. Through the process of using unexpected materials, you will learn new things about composition and color and having many chances to share and connect with each other.
Materials: Each participant should bring a pair of scissors and twelve collage items to share with the group. Examples would be twelve pieces of paper cut from a larger sheet of paper, twelve postcards, twelve images cut from other sources, and twelve pieces of a discarded print or painting from your discard stack. You could, for instance, take three 9 x 12 watercolor paintings you’ve made that didn’t fully satisfy, and cut them into quarters. Or pieces of drawings from your sketchbooks…or things you found at the recycling center. So many ideas! There is no size requirement but paper that is between 4×4 and 12×12 is a good guideline. You are welcome to bring more!
Additional collage materials (optional)
Pencil, pens, or other art materials to add line or color (optional)
Glue of your choice (some examples: ModPodge, Yes! Paste, Nori Paste, PVA glue)
Paper or panels to work on – any size you’d like to try
