Class Description: This class is intended to introduce and expand the creative possibilities of printmaking using Pronto plates. See below for Jan Cook Video teaching live!
Day 1: We will view and discuss examples of prints produced by a variety of Pronto Plate image-making techniques. Next, we will experiment with multiple varieties of drawing and painting tools to discover which makes the kinds of marks we want to see. Then we will learn multiple ways to heat-set certain materials so that they will become printable. At the end of the day, for those who have use of computers and printers at home, we will learn how to produce images on the computer and print them onto Pronto Plates using ordinary office-type laser printers. Students lacking laser printers may bring images from home that can be copied onto Pronto Plates using the laser printer in the Arts Benicia print studio.
Day 2: We will continue making and printing our plates, and for those who are interested in translating photographic images into Pronto prints, we will learn tricks in Photoshop and other programs that will produce creative effects on Pronto Plates. ( Detailed handouts will be available.)
