Benicia Artists Open Studios is Arts Benicia’s most highly publicized event! This year’s weekend-long celebration is Saturday & Sunday, May 2 & 3 from 10 am to 5 pm. Benicia is well known for its vibrant artist community. Each year scores of artists open the doors of their live/work and studio spaces throughout Benicia’s Historic Arsenal District and all over town, providing a unique glimpse into their creative world. Visitors can explore artist studios on Jackson and Tyler Streets in the Arsenal, Glass Blowers on H Street and galleries and other venues on First Street. Don’t miss the opportunity to speak with artists about their work, watch demonstrations, purchase original artwork, and view the Open Studios Preview exhibition at Art Benicia’s gallery on view April 8 – May 3, 2015!
In conjunction with Open Studios, the Mosaic Project is back for 2015! People of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in the creation of the Mosaic Project at Arts Benicia. During the Open Studios exhibition, Arts Benicia will install a huge “mosaic” consisting of the 6 x 6 inch panels, donated by Ruszel Woodworks. These panels are then transformed into unique works of art by both emerging and established artists alike and community members! Each mosaic panel will be sold for $25. All proceeds benefit Arts Benicia.
How to Get Started on the Open Studios Tour:
- Benicia Open Studios Preview: See the work of participating artists on display at Arts Benicia April 8 – May 3 during open hours: Wed. – Sun. 12 – 5 pm
- Open Studios Weekend – May 2 & 3: Stop by the Arts Benicia Gallery and pick up a free Open Studios map. Maps will also be available at Benicia Main Street, the Benicia Plein Air Gallery, H Street Glass Blowers studios, and in Jackson anf Tyler Street studios in the Arsenal. Each participating studio artist will have their studio address listed on the map.
- Plan your Day! Visit studios throughout the arsenal and downtown, watch artist demos in progess at Art Benicia’s Classroom Studio, outdoors in the arsenal and around Benicia, and witness glass blowing at Benicia’s highly regarded glass studios on East H and First Streets. Many studios are within walking distance of Arts Benicia. Soltrans will be operating a free shuttle service for the 2-day event. Parking and admission are free.
