Class description: Join Suzanne in creating Narrative Collage using color, composition, layering, drawing, and image transfer on 6 x 6 x.75 wood panels. We will explore creating works with a personal narrative using storytelling, and personal experience/knowledge. Bring an open mind and images of the things that inspire you. The story can be as grand as a Tuesday life changing event or a simple as last Tuesday.
Supplies: Some suggestions of things to bring to class: Calendar entries, post it notes, things you’ve written, maps or images of your sacred spaces, photos of pets, people, places…anything that inspires and resonates with you. (A printer and scanner will be available so we can make copies of originals).

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Suzanne Long born and raised in Willow Grove PA. I studied Illustration and Graphic Design at Tyler School of Art at Temple University. After graduating I moved to New York and worked as a freelance Illustrator and Production Artist at Conde’ Nast. I traveled to the West in the summer of 1990 and fell in love with the Bay Area. I packed up and moved to San Francisco in early 1991, where I continued my commercial art career. In 1992 I rented a studio space in in the Arsenal artist community in Benicia CA and started a transition from commercial work to fine art. I also started writing at this time and soon incorporate my written work into my visual work. After much effort and an equal amount of failure in meshing the two mediums, I started working three dimensionally in mixed media and Clay. I’ve been a sculptor since 1996. From 2019-2023 was the Curator/Gallery Director at Epperson Gallery, where I Conceptualize and Installed Exhibitors and worked with amazing Artists. I started a Hand Building Workshop called ClayLAB, where I am inspired every day by the work of my students. Currently I am exploring 2 dimensional work again through the thrill of collage.
