Class description: This is an intermediate class for artists wanting to learn more about pastel painting. Students should have familiarity with the medium for the best results This class will focus on 4 hours of theory, techniques, and best approaches for pastel painting.
The general class outline will be:
First 2 hours: Shape interpretation, The Picture Window, Composition in Action, Notan Techniques, and Compositional Study and Color strategies.
Second 2 hours: Workshop painting with individual instruction and group review

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Christopher Naughton, AIA, an architect, recently retired from leading a large healthcare design practice for a national architectural firm. Chris has been a practicing artist for the past 40 years earning Bachelor’s degrees in both architecture and Fine Arts. Chris specializes in Pastel Painting because it is dynamic, immediate, and fun without the traditional fuss of mixing paints. Chris is a gifted communicator in organizing complex information in simple terms, which is perfect for beginners and intermediates. Chris’s work can be seen at these local galleries: the Benicia Plein Air Gallery, the Fairfield Suisun Visual Arts Association, and Village 360 Winery in Fairfield.
