Class Description: This class will introduce young artists to the vibrant tradition of Huichol “Nierika” yarn painting, a sacred and symbolic art form of the Wixárika (Huichol) people of Mexico. In this hands-on class, students will explore the beauty of Nierika by creating their own colorful designs using yarn, beads, and bobbles, adapting the traditional beeswax technique with glue for accessibility and ease. This class encourages creativity, fine motor skills, and artistic expression as students layer and arrange fibers and embellishments to craft their own unique Nierika-inspired artwork. Each student will receive individual guidance and support, working at their own pace to complete a piece that reflects their imagination and storytelling.
Perfect for beginners and curious creatives, this workshop offers a fun, engaging, and supportive environment to explore the rich cultural tradition of Huichol yarn painting.
