William (Bill) Harsh began the Arts Benicia printmaking program in 2002 and continued it until his death in 2012. Many of his former students have continued with printmaking and are included in the exhibition. Bill’s student, Ronna Leon continues to teach the Arts Benicia printmaking program and has invited new students to be part of this exhibition.
Bill Harsh: “Although I am primarily a painter, since my early student days I have loved printmaking for its graphic qualities and artisanal processes. I first encountered printmaking in high school and worked as an apprentice in a fine art printmaking studio in Boston. I have made various kinds of prints ever since, most especially monotypes, the print medium closest to painting. The myriad attractions of printmaking, the sensuous beauty of ink embedded in fine paper, and the special techniques and craft involved continue to compel me as a counterpoint to painting.” ~ William Harsh
