A resident of Martinez, California, Gregory Vasgerdsian’s subject matter comes from day-to-day, visual experiences that are relevant to him.
“I paint with oils in the alla-prima method, relishing how the paint mixes, feels, and looks as it is laid down. The process is driven by what I love in method and what visually excites me — color harmonies, brushstrokes, transitions and blends of color. Painting on location is an important aspect of my process as my decisions in paint are based on living in, and experiencing the real world. I paint places and things that have been a part of my life — that have my interest for both visual and emotional reasons. Many of my paintings are started on location and finished in the studio. Other paintings are created completely in the studio, from notes, sketches and my imagination.”
Gregory received his B.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Arizona in 1987. His work has spanned communication design, 3-dimensional fibers, mixed media, model building, and painting.
