Class description: Students will learn to:
Make a registration board to position colors accurately
Transfer key line print to other blocks
Create multiple color woodblock prints
Participants will create a small (4×6 to 6×8) color drawing to separate into individual color woodblocks. Students will carve their blocks and make test prints. Using the black keyline block they will learn how to transfer their image to other blocks to make the color blocks. Using the registration board we make in class, they will print accurately placed colors.
Materials: A supply list will be sent to each student. Some supplies will be provided
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Stephen Schumm is dedicated to excellence in his art-making while pursuing life-long interests in a variety of artistic mediums and styles. A glass artist since 1975, Stephen worked exclusively in leaded stained glass for many years in Benicia. Stephen started working in watercolor a number of years ago, following the tradition of stained glass artists who used watercolors to present their designs. He also works in collage and acrylic painting on canvas based on his photographs. Stephen has studied printmaking at Diablo Valley College with Toru Sugita.
