1:00 – 3:00 pm
Faciltated by Kara Forest
Grief is part of the human condition, something we all have in common. May our grief bring us together to heal through the art of handwork and non-verbal expression. Stitch n’ Hum is a knitting circle and a sonic healing activity. Attendees are invited to knit, crochet, cross-stitch, embroider, knot, etc. while we hum together as a group- vocalizing personal grief in a non-verbal expression. Handwork can be a way to practice mindfulness. Humming can help physical and emotional symptoms of grief. Combining the two in an inviting, and friendly group setting can create community and remind us that we are not alone in what we may be feeling. Stitch n’ Hum provides a space and activity to assist in the navigation of the grieving process.
Please bring a knitting, crochet, or needlework project of your choosing and the supplies you will need. Works-in-progress encouraged.
Space is limited, please REGISTER HERE to attend.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
A collector of things, artist Kara Forest uses what she finds to create artwork. Often, this involves repurposing her own trash as material for creation. Her work explores themes of craft legacy, releasing intergenerational stress, and feminine lore. The results are time-based sculptures, crafted objects, mixed media drawings, and digital projects. Kara lives and works in California’s Bay Area. She holds a BFA from California College of the Arts (2008) with an emphasis in painting and drawing and a MFA degree from Mills College (2021). Kara was a 2022-2023 Arts Benicia Presents curator and is part of the Arts Benicia Exhibitions Committee.
