$115 non-members/$100 members
$20 materials fee paid directly to instructor

Location: Arts Benicia Annex, 991 Tyler St, #116
Minimum 6 | Maximum 12
Age minimum:  18
Level: All levels

Class description: Students will make a total of 6 small datebooks (4” x 6”) and/or small journals (5″ x 7″) covered inside and outside in marbled paper. These small datebooks or journals make great holiday gifts! They easily fit in your pocket or purse. Every student will learn how to cover these datebooks or journals in marbled paper provided by the instructor. Students will be able to choose the colors and patterns of the marbled paper from a large supply of handmade marbled papers. If you have take a previous class and made your own marbled paper, you can bring your own marbled paper and use it too. This class is essentially a bookbinding class. I will prepare the datebooks and journals prior to the class to speed up the construction process. The instructor will also demonstrate how to prepare the books, so can make datebooks outside of class. Once you take the class, it will be easy for you to make more of these datebooks or journals at home, if you wish.

Use the arrow in the box below to choose the appropriate member or non-member tuition rate.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Hampton Deck learned marbling from world renowned marbler, Pamela Smith, working with her in her studio in Abiquiu, New Mexico. He has also taken lesson in Istanbul, Turkey. He has taught at Arts Benicia in past years. He constructed his own marbling studio in his garage here in Benicia, where he has created literally thousands of marbled papers of all colors and patterns. He has also studied bookbinding at the San Francisco Center for the Book. He combines these skills to create marbled paper covered journal, datebooks and sketchbooks, as well as other objects covered in marbled paper. He gives private lessons in his studio. He has a large collection of books about marbling. He is the Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo.
