Class description: Experience making art on a silkscreen without the traditional use of photo emulsion, a computer or an exposure unit. Come learn about alternative methods of screen printing using painterly techniques and water-based acrylics. Together, we’ll explore creative ways to achieve surprising and bold abstract silkscreened prints on paper.

In this fun, two-day workshop, students will be encouraged to loosen up and experiment with stencils, mixed media, and mark-making tools. Participants will be introduced to the expressive possibilities of painting directly onto silkscreen mesh to build layers to create exciting monoprints. Students will delve further into the process by exploring the drawing fluid method of screenprinting to create a full series of edition prints.

This course includes demonstrations and dedicated studio work time to achieve results. It is completely hands-on, requiring dexterity to maneuver a variety of tools and equipment with a 9 x 12-inch silkscreen. Some of the workshop will be seated, but participants should feel comfortable standing to screen print. All materials will be provided by the instructor. No printmaking experience is required.
