Class Description:In this Friday workshop, students explore the real foundations of drawing through hands-on projects that build on each other week by week. Topics include pencil grades and mark-making, light and shadow, negative space, proportion, and one-point perspective — culminating in a final piece and written artist statement in the student’s own chosen style. All supplies provided.
Taught by Resident Artist Karen Garcia Merriott, a BFA graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute with an active studio practice and extensive experience teaching young artists.

Karen Merriott has a BFA in painting from San Francisco Arts Institute and Digital Animation from Computer Arts Institute. Karen has worked as an international digital graphic designer, UX designer, and a software engineer. Karen is a multi-media contemporary abstract surrealist artist who works in large format. She teaches youth programs with the Children’s Museum of Art, after-school classes, and Summer EcoArt Camp at Arts Benicia and leads the 4th grade Art Classes with B.U.S.D.’s STEAM Program.
