Arts Benicia is proud to present Gems, a small works show with a focused approach on exquisite, intricate, intimate works of art on a small scale. This juried exhibition includes works in a variety of media by select Arts Benicia members, and other local and regional artists. Gems is intended to present unique, first-rate work created in Benicia and the greater Bay Area and offers an intriguing alternative to more commercial shopping. The small scale of the work draws viewers in, creating an intimate, personal experience that is meant to be shared.
Image: Suns and Planets No. 4″ by Cherie Blackwell 2011, 6″ x 6″ is one of a series of 10 unique resin pigment giclee prints on hardwood panel. The collaged image partially incorporates derivatives of a stamp design by Jean McCracken that were produced during Ms. Blackwell’s tenure as head of the Muse10 Arts Collective. Ms. Blackwell is currently an artist-in-residence at the KALA Art Institute and Gallery in Berkeley, California and a contributing author for the Surface Design Journal, a quarterly publication of the Surface Design Association. Her works are exhibited nationally.
