Class Description: I am so excited to be back in the studio and be able to offer a New Pastel Course for Portrait Painting. During my “break”, I have developed a simplified, yet structured method for approaching portraits in pastels. I am so looking forward to “seeing” you all again, and to welcome new students to this exciting journey!
THIS WORKSHOP INCLUDES A QUALITY VIMEO VIDEO OF EACH CLASS SO EVEN IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND THE LIVE SESSION YOU ARE ABLE TO WATCH THE CLASS AT YOUR CONVENIENCE! You are also welcome to share your work during the class and/or… send it in afterwards for critiques. My classes are supportive and challenging at the same time. We work through the process together… and I am very sensitive to the progress of the participants.
Some of what we will cover:
* Composition… how to fit your portrait on your format
* Analyzing the structure of the head and how to use angles to locate features.
* Finding the the value patterns… without which … there is no form!
* Understanding color as it relates to value and form
* Creating form with soft edges… and the use of strong edges
* How to illustrate individual features of the face including eye, nose mouth… ears etc
* Understanding temperature of color and how to create a focus point through contrast and temperature change…
If you are NEW to the process of drawing…I CAN PROVIDE A SHORT VIDEO TO GIVE YOU THE BASIC METHODS THAT WE USE for DRAWING or PAINTING … REGARDLESS of the MEDIUM!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Deirdre Shibano is an award-winning artist, and was named “California Artist of the Year 2018” by Tosca Magazine. She was originally trained at the Art Students League in New York, and she continues to seek knowledge and techniques to improve her work, as well as to share with her students. Ms. Shibano has been teaching art for over 20 years in various venues including: art centers, community colleges, private studios and public schools.
