Class description: Let’s delve into making a pastel drawing! There are so many choices – this includes the process, papers, and markmaking. The workshop will start with demos and examples. Then working in a small group students will explore using pastels as a medium. Students will use three different kinds of paper, three different underpinnings, and three different types of markmaking to build an image and compare the results.
At the Workshop you’ll be supplied with the following: Use of instructor pastels (or bring your own) • 3 sheets of varied papers • Use of instructor watercolors, charcoal, and brushes.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Diane Olivier received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from the University of California, Berkeley with a focus on drawing. Originally from Rhode Island, she makes her home in San Francisco, California, and organizes workshops in her studio and internationally. Diane’s love of teaching drawing extends to sketchbooks, pastels, charcoals, and mixed media from large to small with the figure and the plein air landscape as her most common subjects.
